Spring?

For those of you that don’t live in the Seattle area, you probably think it rains here all of the time. Well, normally, we say that it’s the best kept secret that it DOESN’T actually rain all the time…. However, I am beginning to think that summer is never going to get here. I am slightly jealous of all of my Arizona friends, posting stories of the hot sun and days spent outside by the pool. I even had a conversation with my boss about how it couldn’t possibly be May yet because it doesn’t smell like it!

This weekend we finally got a peak of what some people call spring. What was the first thing I did? Spontaneously bought a water/sand table for Saylen to have in the yard. And what is the second thing I did? Ran out to Home Depot and bought a BBQ to replace the broken one. Yep, now we are all set for summer…. if it would just hurry up and get here!

Here are some pics from our pre-summer weekend…

Congratulations!

Congratulations are in order to my sister and her boyfriend Justin. About a month ago they got engaged, and I have yet to make it official on the blog! We spent a weekend with them and another couple at a beautiful home on north Whidbey Island. If you are in need of a stay-cation, check out the website at www.soaringeaglelodgewhidbey.com.

Justin popped the question by the fire on Saturday night. Here are some pics of the happy couple:

After the big event, we decided to head to the hot tub… each couple emerging from their room in a strikingly familiar outfit – completely not planned!!

The remainder of the weekend was spent playing games, consuming far too much food, and enjoying the amazing surroundings, including our very own back yard Bald Eagle’s nest.

I forgot to mention, the final activity of the weekend was our fantasy baseball draft. Spencer, Justin/Kaitlyn, and I each own our own team, so this was a big event. I made sure to bring my “keeper” shirts with me (if you don’t get what that means, don’t worry, just baseball talk). We were all happy pre-draft, but I can tell you today I am little sad that both Evan Longoria and Josh Hamilton are on the DL!!

I can’t wait to head back to this amazing spot! Hopefully we can make it an annual trip!

Viewer Discretion Advised…

Nothing about this post is G rated… well, ok,  it isn’t actually that bad, just not for the squeamish.

First up… Some quality time with Saylen’s best friends – Daddy, Turq and Ruby:

Mr. Independent

Our little baby has quickly turned into a little boy! He has become so independent, and his personality is really starting to come through. Here's what's new at our house...

1. Saylen will play for 15- 20 minutes all by himself. This may not sound like much, but if you have had a little one this age, you would know that it's nice to be able to just sit and not chase or constantly entertain!

2. He has be come such a good eater! We have never really struggled with food, but this kid eats ANYTHING! It is nice to know that there is always something in the house... his favorites include apples, cauliflower, graham crackers and black beans.

3. Not only does he walk/run everywhere, but he is starting to climb. This morning I caught him standing, both feet off the ground, on the frame of our bed, in an attempt to get up on the bed. This was a bit scary!!

4. He loves to play, but one of his favorite games is to climb up on the chair in his room and have all the animals from his stuffed animal hammock dumped on his head. Then he 'helps' you throw them back up and do it all over again. He also LOVES to chase after his dogs, and laughs hysterically in the process. I think his dad would also like you do know that he can put the ball in the basketball hoop, even on command.

5. Saylen's vocabulary is growing fast as well. He doesn't say much more than 'dad', 'dog', and 'this'... but he understands so much. I am always amazed when I ask him to do something or get something and he totally does it. He knows where to go when you say 'tubby time' or 'lunch time' and he knows a lot of the pictures in his books. The other day I told him he could have a graham cracker if he sat on the couch... as I opened the box to get the cracker out, he was off to the couch, and before I got around the corner he was sitting waiting nicely for me. It was super cute!

No pictures today.... computer has been taken hostage by spyware, so I am posting from the web. Maybe in the next fee days :)

SUN!!!

It was a BEAUTIFUL day in Seattle today! Definitely cold, but so sunny. Just like the rest of the city, we had to take this opportunity and spend part of the day outside. We just went for a walk to the neighborhood park, but it was still nice to soak up some vitamin d.

I actually had a secondary motive for our family park trip, but it didn’t turn out so well. Spencer gave me an awesome digital SLR camera for my birthday (back in November) and to date I had only used one of the lenses. I decided to take the unused lens (with great zoom capability) with us to the park… but I clearly need some lessons!! Below are my best shots from the day….

Just to Hold You Over…

I have been a bit busy at work lately, resulting in a lot of NOTHING when I get home at night. Here are a few pictures to hold you over until I have time to update you on our 14 month old little boy!

Saylen discovered himself in the mirror a while back…

… and what’s better than giving yourself a kiss!!

He is looking way too grown up in this picture!! Don’t ya think?

What better seat than the dog? And what better toy than mommy’s cell phone? (Turq did not care at all that Saylen was crawling and sitting on him for at least 5 minutes).
